Lewis Hamilton’s go-kart sold on eBay…Proceeds will go to Tommy’s the baby charityLewis Hamilton’s Vodafone McLaren Mercedes go-kart sold on eBay for £42,100 (£40,000 more than its real value!). The british driver sold his customised kart to raise money for charity. All proceeds from go-kart’s sale will go to Tommy’s, the baby charity which supports the welfare of unborn and newborn babies.

Bids for the 22bhp kart had been fluttering around £5,000 before Sunday’s race (2007 Indianapolis USA Grand Prix), but hours after Hamilton won his second race in a row, they reached £16,000. And they raised to over £40,000 by the close of the auction this afternoon.

In auction’s description, Hamilton wrote: “It’s brand new, with only one careful owner, and this kart was customised for me by Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. It’s pretty fast… just how I like it! For anyone who aspires to be a Formula 1 driver one day… this is for you!”…”Not only will you win this go-kart, but you’ll get a chance to meet me at the launch of Vodafone Mobile Internet on 21st June in London and I’ll give you a few tips on handling this beast! “…”The reasons for selling are my work commitments mean my weekends are taken up for the foreseeable future, plus Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have given me a much faster vehicle now… maybe you saw it on TV when I won the 2007 Canadian F1 Grand Prix!”..”So instead of seeing this go-kart gather dust, I’d love to see it in the hands of someone who will give it good use and love it as much as I have… I’ll be sad to see it go. ”
