Lewis Hamilton second Grand Prix win in Indianapolis USA 2007British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, wins his second Grand Prix in a row in front of his teammate Alonso after an intriguing duel. With this win, Hamilton leads 2007 F1 Championship by 10 points. Third place for Felipe Massa (Ferrari), fourth for Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari), fifth for Heikki Kovalainen (Renault) and sixth for Jarno Trulli (Toyota).

Excellent race from the 22yr old British driver. No doubts are left, young McLaren’s driver is running for a place in history between F1 bigs such as Senna and Schumacher. Today, in Indianapolis, he gave another clear answer to whom might be still skeptic about his abilities winning, in front of last year’s Champion and current teammate Alonso.

Massa’s third and Raikkonen’s fourth place ain’t bad at all for Ferrari but there’s nothing more to say: pole position and victory for McLaren in two GP’s where the F2007 were supposed to be in advantage on those kind of tracks; this demonstrates clearly current Ferrari’s condition. A lot has to be done in order to be competitive again, McLaren are literally flying. Today the Silver Arrows haven’t had any kind of pressure, it’s comprehensible that Ferrari supporters are preoccupied.

However, the most interesting aspect is the fact that rivalry between Hamilton and Alonso is continuously growing. After a controversial week between the two (see this post), today we’ve seen the awaited duel. Alonso hasn’t been able to do anything; during the 38th lap, on Indy’s long straight section, he tried to overtake Hamilton, but Lewis was smart enough to keep the inside trajectory before the 1st right turn. And after putting slightly the wheels on the grass right after the second pit stop, Alonso understood that it was better to keep firmly the second place. Hamilton impressed us with his self-confidence: he hasn’t only been fast, he also doubled 5 cars with the right determination in order to keep Fernando behind him. Seven times on the podium in 7 Races, two victories and leader of the Championship with 58pts. Who can stop him???

Good race also for Jarno Trulli, who placed sixth with his troubled Toyota behind Kovalainen (4th) and in front of Webber (7th) and Vettel (8th). Vettel, that deserves at least one citation. On his first ever Grand Prix (as Kubica’s replacement) the young German driver conquered a prestigious 8th place. Therefore, he has become the youngest driver in history in gaining points (previous record belonged to Jenson Button, for his 6th place on 2001 Brazilian Grand Prix).
