Nico Rosberg: “We deserve the penalty for Montreal incident”
Williams’ Nico Rosberg has stated to French newspaper La Presse that the race officials have done well their job by giving him and Hamilton a ten place grid penalty for the upcoming French Grand Prix following the pit lane incident at the Canadian Grand Prix. The German hit Hamilton’s McLaren right after the Briton had hit Raikkonen’s F2008.
“I think I deserve the penalty, the same as Hamilton,” Rosberg told the newspaper. “He didn’t stop, and neither did I, so we deserve the same fate. I saw the red lights too late, so it is natural that there is a penalty. I made a mistake,” he added.
“Of course, if Hamilton had slowed, I would have been able to better understand what was going on. But he kept going, and then suddenly hit Kimi’s car.”
However, Rosberg admitted that he had never watched the lights at the pit lane exit.
“In my whole career I have never watched the lights at the pit exit,” he was quoted as saying to a German website. “I can almost forget about Magny Cours, because I will be starting probably in 18th or 19th place,” he added.
