Monza test, Day 1: Felipe Massa fastest
Just three days after last weekend’s European Grand Prix, the F1 teams got back on track at the Autodromo di Monza in Italy in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix. Felipe Massa was the fastest man on track with 101 laps completed, the fastest in 1:23.428. The Brazilian completed three long runs and evaluated Ferrari’s aerodynamic package for the race in Monza, scheduled for September 14th. Second fastest time for McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen (1:23.439, 79 laps) followed by Williams’ Nico Rosberg, third (1:23.461, 60 laps).
Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Vettel has continued his good form by finishing fourth (1:23.691, 99 laps) while his compatriot at BMW Sauber, Nick Heidfeld, had only the 7th time (1:24.075, 77 laps). The BMW-Sauber F1 team however, tested different mechanical setups both for the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps and the Italian Grand Prix.
