Silverstone tests, Day 2: Heikki Kovalainen on top

Heikki KovalainenMcLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen ended on top of the timesheets on the second day of testing at Silverstone. The Finn clocked a best time of 1:20.015, 0.3 seconds faster than Toyota’s Jarno Trulli (P2, 1:20.391). The Italian was followed by Williams’ Nico Rosberg (1:20.624) ahead of Renault’s Nelson Piquet (1:20.787).

Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Vettel, stopped by a fuel pump problem on Day 1, managed to complete the scheduled programme and finished fifth (1:20.795).

Robert Kubica finished sixth, followed by Felipe Massa seventh, Mark Webber eighth, Jenson Button ninth and Giancarlo Fisichella tenth. The Force India driver, however, had to stop testing earlier following a heavy crash at the Becketts corner. The Italian was uninjured but decided to visit the medical centre for precautionary checks.
