Rumors: Hamilton win at Fuji was in doubt for 7 hours

Lewis Hamilton Japanese GP Fuji Speedway winner 2007According to a Spanish newspaper, Lewis Hamilton’s Japanese Grand Prix win was for 7 hours in doubt on Sunday evening. Marca claims that stewards at Fuji Speedway deliberated for 7 hours and well into nightfall before officialising the result, after investigating the British dangerous braking manoeuvres’ while he led the field behind the safety car.

Sebastian Vettel, penalised ten grid places for the upcoming Shanghai round for crashing into Mark Webber, had in a meeting with the stewards blamed Hamilton for the incident. “I saw Lewis going really slowly, I don’t know why, but I thought he had a problem. By the time I looked forward again, I was already in the back of Mark’s car and I think he had also reacted to Lewis,” the German rookie had told the press. Marca said Hamilton was also summoned to the stewards’ room, but no penalty was ultimately applied.
