Jenson ButtonHonda Racing driver Jenson Button and his physio Mike Collier took part in their first amateur triathlon event in the UK on Sunday 20 April. Jenson regularly competes in triathlons as part of his intense training regime to maintain and improve his fitness and recently won an event in Lanzarote as part of his pre-season training programme.

The Sevenoaks Triathlon which took place in Kent is a ‘Sprint Triathlon’ comprising a 400m swim, 27km bike ride and an 8km run. Jenson finished a very impressive 16th out of 250 competitors in a time of 01:31.21, with Mike finishing 47th in a time of 01:40.18.

Button was extremely pleased with the result but commented that the event was harder than he expected. Jenson rounded off the day by presenting the trophy to the overall winner Ben Ward who finished in a time of 01:22.00.

Button and Collier will next compete in the Nokia Royal Windsor Triathlon on 15 June.

Button commented: “I really enjoy competing in triathlons, probably because I have total control over my race and the result. In F1, it’s very different as it’s a big team event but in a triathlon you are in control of your own destiny. I love training and anything physical so having to push myself to the limit in three different and very intense skills is very rewarding.”
