Heikki Kovalainen sign with Vodafone McLaren MercedesIn an interview with British tabloid Daily Star, McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen said that beating his teammate Lewis Hamilton ‘is not such a big issue’ for him. “Beating Lewis is not such a big issue for me”, the Finn was quoted as saying to the tabloid. “It’s not my priority. If we are third and fourth and I’m ahead of him, then to be honest I’m thinking about the two guys in front of me, rather than thinking ‘Yes, I’m ahead of Lewis’,” he added.

“I have confidence in myself. I’m not afraid of anyone. He’s a tough guy to beat, and if you do beat him it means you are somewhere near the top. But in the race it does not enter my head at all to think ‘Where is Lewis?’”.

Kovalainen has also said that he’s surprised by his ‘unexpected’ good start this season. “I did not expect to be fighting for podiums and pole positions straightaway. That has been a little surprising. I don’t stress myself thinking about winning the race. It will happen, if not this weekend, then maybe the next.”
