Felipe Massa French GP Pole PositionAfter his excellent free practice session yesterday, at Magny Cours, Ferrari’s brazilian driver Felipe Massa manages to grab the Pole Position for tomorrow’s French Grand Prix. Second place for Lewis Hamilton, third for Kimi Raikkonen. Fifth and sixth place for Renault cars with Giancarlo Fisichella preceding his teammate Heikki Kovalainen. 10th place with no registered time for Fernando Alonso who had engine problems.

Massa set a best time of 1’15”034 preceding his McLaren rival, Lewis Hamilton by less than a tenth of second. Kimi Raikkonen placed 3rd demonstrating that Silverstone tests had helped him a lot. Excellent fourth place for BMW Sauber’s driver Robert Kubica, returning to GP races following his crash in Canada. Both Renault’s had a good qualifier session; Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen will start from fifth and sixth place respectively. Nick Heidfeld, after being treated for his back problems in “Centre Hopitalier Pierre Beregovoy” hospital, decided to race Magny-Cours Qualifier Session and placed seventh.

More problems for Alonso who, very early during Q3, had apparently an engine malfunction; Fernando spent 10 minutes in his car while his team tried to solve the issue, but he eventually got out and did not return to the track. So he will start from 10th position after being unable to set a time.

Problems for David Coulthard too, who was unable to even set a time after suffering a gearbox problem during his first lap at the start of the second session (Q2).
