2009 Spanish GP: Massa fastest in final practice 

Nick Heidfeld crashes into the barriers at Turn 12.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa clocked the fastest lap during the final free practice for Sunday’s 2009 Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya. The Brazilian, at the wheel of the deeply revised Ferrari F60b, completed 18 laps, the quickest in 1:20.553 beating by 0.082 seconds team mate Kimi Raikkonen (1:20.635).

Brawn GP duo clocked the third and fourth time with Jenson Button (1:21.050) once again ahead of Rubens Barrichello (1:21.163). The Brazilian was followed by BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica (1:21.239), Toyota’s Jarno Trulli (1:21.256), McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton (1:21.346) and Toyota’s Timo Glock (1:21.377).

Tenth time for local hero Fernando Alonso (1:21.499) ahead of Heikki Kovalainen (1:21.519), Nnico Rosberg (1:21.594) and Mark Webber (1:21.629).

Last place for the other BMW Sauber F1.09, Nick Heidfeld’s. The German crashed into the barriers at Turn 12 after the first half of the session, damaging the front wing along with the front left suspension. His mechanics are currently working against time to fix the car as less than two hours are left for the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying session.
