Felipe MassaFerrari’s Felipe Massa took his 14th career pole position for Sunday’s inaugural Singapore Grand Prix, F1′s 800th Grand Prix and first ever night race. The Brazilian clocked a best time of 1:44.801, preceding by 0.664 seconds his main rival for the Drivers’ Championship, Lewis Hamilton (1:45.465), who had to settle with the second spot on Sunday’s grid. Third place for reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen, who despite some difficulties during Q1 and Q2, was able to clock a 1:45.617 on his final flying lap.

Fourth place for BMW’s Robert Kubica (1:45.779), ahead of McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen (1:45.873), teammate Nick Heidfeld (1:45.964), STR’s Sebastian Vettel (1:46.244), Toyota’s Timo Glock (1:46.328) and Williams’ duo with Nico Rosberg (1:46.611) ahead of Kazuki Nakajima (1:47.547).

The big disappointment came from Renault’s Fernando Alonso who will start the race tomorrow only from the 15th spot. The Spaniard, who clocked promising lap times during Q1, had an unfortunate fuel pump problem during Q2 and had to retire earlier from the qualifying.
