Patrick HeadIn 2004 Williams had the chance to sign Lewis Hamilton, at that time an F3 Euroseries driver, but former Williams engine partner BMW couldn’t back the deal. Such surprising revelation was given by Williams F1 Team co-owner Patrick Head who said: “Hamilton and his father came in and said ‘Ron Dennis has dropped us‘. At that time, we were partners with BMW, and I belive that Frank (Williams) had asked Mario Theissen to take over the backing of Hamilton’s promising career. I think Mario said they weren’t prepared to provide any support and we weren’t in a position financially where we could finance his racing.”
