Second consecutive pole for Button at Sepang
P2 for Jarno Trulli
Brawn GP’s driver Jenson Button has grabbed his second consecutive pole position during the 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix qualifying session, confirming the team’s outstanding pace. The Briton, who showed great pace in Q1, Q2 and Q3, clocked a best time of 1:35.181 and was followed by an excellent Jarno Trulli(1:35.273).
Sebastian Vettel and Rubens Barrichello finished third and fourth respectively but following their grid penalties, the young German will be demoted to P13 while the Brazilian to P9. Consequently, fifth placed Timo Glock and sixth Nico Rosberg will move up to row number two.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber was able to come up to P7 (1:35.797), followed by BMW’s Robert Kubica (1:36.106), Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen (1:36.170) and Renault’s Fernando Alonso (1:37.659).
The surprises of the qualifying session were Felipe Massa‘s early exit – knocked out in Q1 – and the McLaren-Mercedes drivers that failed to qualify to Q3, ending up in the midfield: Lewis Hamilton took P13 and Heikki Kovalainen P14.
