Singapore lightThe Channel Newsasia news agency has reported that McLaren-Mercedes technicians have conducted last weekend a detailed photographic report of Singapore’s racetrack during its lighting system demonstration. McLaren’s special projects chief Neil Trundle, explained that such data will be used to setup McLaren’s simulator in order to prepare Hamilton and Kovalainen for the inaugural night race in Singapore scheduled for September 28th, 2008. “When we get back to England, we are going to put this on our simulator,” said Trundle.

In the meantime, former McLaren-Mercedes driver Mika Hakkinen, following a couple of demonstrative laps with McLaren’s MP4-22 single-seater around the illuminated track, told reporters that with such powerful lighting system – a 3000 lux illumination rating, compared to around 100 lux for Singapore’s standard street lights, and the average 50,000 lux of normal sunlight – the drivers will not need special testing so that they can get used to night driving.
