McLaren change Kovalainen’s engine ahead of Singapore GP qualifying

The McLaren-Mereceds F1 team has opted for the ‘engine joker‘ substitution on Heikki Kovalainen‘s MP4-23 ahead of the Qualifying session for Sunday’s 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. Mercedes Motorsport boss, Norbert Haug, has stated that the engine change on the Finn’s car it’s just a precautionary move.
“We have changed the engine in Heikki’s car as a precaution,” said Haug. “We saw a little bit of usage in the engine and this is a joker engine so there is no grid penalty applied. The decision was taken yesterday,” he added.
