Mario Theissen BMW-Sauber Motorsport DirectorMario Theissen, BMW’s Motorsport Director, following yesterday’s historic one two for the Hiwnil based team at the Canadian Grand Prix, expressed his delight in a letter addressed to all BMW fans around the world. “The 8th June 2008 will remain be a special date in the, still short, history of the BMW Sauber F1 Team,” Theissen wrote on the team’s official website. “After all, it was our only 42nd race, but in the Canadian GP held on this day we succeeded in celebrating our maiden win, nevertheless. The fact that it turned out to be a one-two turned this day into a truly memorable one. We have accomplished the next step on our agenda,” he continued.

“Robert first, Nick runner-up – a truly fantastic result. Even the day after this success, finding the appropriate words proves to be difficult. I’d like to congratulate not only Robert and Nick, who both did a fantastic job in difficult conditions, but most notably the entire team in Munich and Hinwil. I know that everybody shared the thrill at home, in front of their TV sets.”

“We set ourselves the goal to close the gap to the front-runners this season and secure our maiden Grand Prix win. With seven races of the season contested we now can say: ‘Mission accomplished.’”

“Throughout the season to date, we have no longer been the third power on the grid but one of the three top teams. And the fact that Robert has taken the lead in the Drivers’ Championship represents the icing on the cake. However, we must remain realistic. With eleven more races to go, this is just a ‘snap-shot’ and nothing else. We will continue focusing on each forthcoming race at a time aiming to add further points to our tally.”
