Jerez, Test Day 2: Lewis Hamilton sets the pace

Lewis Hamilton Pole Position USA Indianapolis GP 2007Lewis Hamilton returned to the racetrack for testing today at Jerez and set the pace, despite an off in the morning session. The Briton recorded a best lap time of 1’19”371, three-tenths faster than Nick Heidfeld’s lap time in Day 1. David Coulthard had the second fastest time on his Red Bull and was one of a number of drivers who tested the slick tires provided by Bridgestone.

Coulthard lapped within 0.050s of Hamilton’s best while teammate Mark Webber finished in 15th place.

Felipe Massa on his Ferrari recorded the third fastest time, a fraction ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Pedro de la Rosa was 5th fastest in the second McLaren ahead of Nelson Piquet who was another driver to take to the gravel trap this morning in his Renault.

Christian Klien did his chances of landing the remaining Force India Ferrari seat no harm today with the 7th fastest time ahead of Sebastian Vettel in the leading Toro Rosso. Giancarlo Fisichella was 9th fastest in what is his second day of testing with Force India while Robert Kubica rounded out the top ten for BMW Sauber.

Timo Glock on Toyota had the 11th best time ahead of Sebastien Bourdais in his Toro Rosso, while Nico Rosberg returned to test action with Williams Toyota with the 13th best time ahead of Andreas Zuber who ran with Super Aguri Honda on behalf on sister squad Honda.

Nico Hulkenberg had a second day of running with the Williams team, placing the 16th best time just four-tenths from Rosberg in 17th. Anthony Davidson was next up for Super Aguri ahead of Barrichello who took over from Jenson Button in the works Honda while Kamui Kobayashi posted the 19th best lap of the day.
