HRT F1 signs Karun Chandhok for 2010

Karun ChandhokThe new HRT F1 team, previously known as Campos Meta 1, announced today that they have signed Karun Chandhok for a race seat in the 2010 F1 world championship.

The 26-year-old Indian driver raced in the GP2 Series the last three years and scored his first win in the series in 2007, at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

Chandhok will team-up at the HRT F1 team with his former team-mate at iSport Bruno Senna and he will be the second Indian driver to race in Formula 1 after Narain Karthikeyan in 2005.

“Today we complete the driver’s team line-up with the Indian Karun Chandhok at the wheel of the car for our first ever season,” said HRT F1 team principal Colin Kolles upon the announcement. “We have been very impressed with Karun’s performance in GP2. India is a great country. It will be great for the sport to have an Indian driver on the grid for the first Indian Grand Prix.”
