Honda F1 Team to test GP2 drivers trio

Honda F1 racing Team 2007Honda announced today that GP2 drivers Mike Conway, Luca Filippi and Andreas Zuber will participate in the team’s first winter test in Barcelona next month. As part of the team’s commitment to the development of young motorsport talent, the trio will have the opportunity to drive the Honda RA107 at the Circuit de Catalunya on 13th, 14th and 15th November.

Conway, 24, has been part of the Honda Young Driver Programme since March 2007, and has worked closely with the team throughout his debut season in the GP2 series with the Super Nova International Team. Prior to GP2, Conway won the British Formula 3 championship and the Macau Grand Prix during the 2006 season, in addition to winning the Formula Renault UK title in 2004.

Filippi, 22, has competed in the GP2 series for the past two seasons, finishing in fourth position in the 2007 driver standings with Super Nova. Filippi began his racing career in his home country of Italy, winning the Italian Formula 3000 championship in 2005 before moving up to GP2.

Zuber, 24, has also spent the past two seasons racing in GP2, finishing in ninth position this year with championship winning team iSport International. Austrian-born Zuber previously competed in the F3 Euroseries and the World Series by Renault before starting in GP2 in 2006.

Ron Meadows, Sporting Director for the Honda Racing F1 Team with responsibility for Honda’s Young Driver Proogramme, commented: “Honda is committed to developing promising young talent in motorsport and we will take this opportunity to have a closer look at three young drivers who have done very well in the GP2 series this year. We will also be evaluating their potential to assist Honda in the future with our testing requirements.”

Current Honda test driver Christian Klien has stated that he does not wish to continue in the role in 2008.
