Fisichella scores first pole for Force India at Spa
Force India’s veteran driver Giancarlo Fisichella took a surprising pole position for Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, scoring the first ever pole for Vijay Mallya’s team ahead of an impressive Jarno Trulli who was only 0.087 seconds slower than his compatriot.
BMW’s Nick Heidfeld (1:46.500) ended up fourth ahead of Brawn GP’s Rubens Barrichello (1:46.513), team-mate Robert Kubica (1:46.586), Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen (1:46.633) and Toyota’s Timo Glock (1:46.788).
The two Red Bulls managed only 8th and 9th fastest with Sebastian Vettel (1:46.761) beating team-mate Mark Webber (1:46.788).
Williams’ Nico Rosberg (1:47.362) finished 10th fastest and was followed by Force India’s Adrian Sutil, reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton, double world champion Fernando Alonso and championship leader Jenson Button, all of them being knocked out in Q2.
Ferrari’s Luca Badoer had again a disappointing qualifying ending dead last, 0.598 seconds slower than his nearest rival, Renault’s Romain Grosjean.
