Ferrari F1 EngineScuderia Ferrari has stated that the engine problem that caused the double withdrawal in the Australian Grand Prix last Sunday, has now been fixed. The Maranello-based team, suffered engine failure on both Massa’s and Raikkonen’s single-seaters at Albert Park’s Circuit. Both engines, were sent to Maranello for more detailed analysis.

The technicians at Maranello, established that Melbourne’s higher temperatures caused an issue on the fuel pressure valve which consequently led to a failure of the engine’s  intake valves. It wasn’t a quality control nor a cooling problem. The Team, can’t change these engines so has decided to work hard on improving the mapping.

Ferrari, denied also, that such issue would have been caused by the new standard ECU built by McLaren and Microsoft as rumors suggested this week.

Mclaren built ECU boxes for all teams!? “Theres something screwy going on here”?!! 100m$ might seem fair now.

  2. David says:

Yup Robert, the new standard ECU boxes are built by MES (McLaren Electronic Systems) in collaboration with Microsoft.

The FIA gave the announcement back in 2006… “Microsoft MES has been selected as the official ECU supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010.”

IMHO, it’s quite obvious that at least this season McLaren will have a clear advantage with those ECU’s.

Most of the F1 teams, have raised many doubts on the new ECU during the winter…Renault’s Technical Director Bob Bell for example, labeled FIA’s decision as ‘a step back’ for the French team.

But, you know how this works…money does make a difference…
