David CoulthardVeteran F1 driver David Coulthard, who now works as a consultant at the Red Bull Racing F1 team, has suggested through his column at the Daily Telegraph newspaper that Scuderia Ferrari will be able to improve dramatically ‘if and when‘ double world champion Fernando Alonso joins the team.

“I don’t know Felipe Massa that well, so I can’t really comment too much on him, but Raikkonen is a former team mate of mine and the Finn has never shown me he can lead a car’s development,” wrote Coulthard. “Sure, he has blistering natural speed, but I suspect Ferrari will improve dramatically if and when Fernando Alonso arrives,” he added.

Coulthard has also expressed concerns over the new management following Jean Todt‘s departure. “Team principal Stefano Domenicali is a young, approachable and thoroughly nice man. In Formula One, those ingredients do not always work,” he wrote. “His McLaren counterpart, Martin Whitmarsh, may well be suffering from a similar problem. Are these two young, able team leaders tough enough?,” he continued.

“In Formula One, dictatorships are the order of the day; characters such as Bernie Ecclestone, Max Mosley, Ron Dennis and Jean Todt all have or had signs above their heads saying: warning, approach with caution!,” he added.
