Canadian GP: first Grand Prix win for L. Hamilton 

In a race full of caution flags and crashes, McLaren’s revelation driver Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix. This is Hamilton’s 1st win in a Formula 1 Grand Prix and at the same time, the first victory for a black driver in Formula 1. “It’s been a fantastic season already,” he said. “We’ve had six podiums and I’ve been ready for quite some time for the win; it’s just been a matter of when and where. The team gave me the best car and I had no problems during the race at all.”

During the 70 lap race the only one to give McLaren Mercedes driver any competition was BMW Sauber’s driver, Nick Heidfeld who in the end, took the second place; third place for A. Wurz Toyota-William’s ex test driver, fourth for H. Kovalainen, fifth for K. Raikkonen with the only Ferrari that made it to the finish. Excellent race for T. Sato who, after an extremely fabulous overtake over last year’s F1 champion F. Alonso, took sixth place with his Super Aguri.

Bad day for F. Massa and G. Fisichella who got disqualified (black flag) for exiting the pits with a red light.

Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber’s driver, was involved in a terrific crash just before the half of the race. He escaped serious injury but was taken to a hospital for further examination after being removed unconscious from his completely destroyed car by medical personnel. Team officials said Kubica apparently sustained only a foot injury.
