BMW SauberFollowing Heidfeld’s second place at the Australian Grand Prix and Kubica’s at the Malaysian Grand Prix, the BMW-Sauber team is now being watched closely by McLaren and Ferrari as a real rival for the podium fight. “For me, BMW is a serious rival,”  Mercedes-Benz Vice President Norbert Haug, told to SID news agency. “After two races they are five points behind us. This is obviously nothing. They seem to have the speed, so next time perhaps they will already be right out the front.”

Ferrari’s Team Principal Stefano Domenicali, has agreed on the fact that BMW-Sauber has made huge steps this season. “They are there,”  he said. “We need to respect them a lot, and we do, because they are in a position to take points away from us.”

However, BMW Motorsport Chief Mario Theissen, remains focused on the team’s main objective which is to win a couple of races. “No one should draw premature conclusions,” Theissen told to Auto Motor und Sport. “We are still not on eye-level with the two top teams. But we are on the right course. Our car still has potential; we have not reached our maximum yet.”
