Bernie Ecclestone against Magny-CoursFormula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone, following Australian GP organizers decision to opt out a night race in Melbourne and their unwillingness to pay more for a contract renewal beyond 2010, has apparently decided to find a replacement for Albert Park’s Circuit. The British newspaper Daily Mirror, revealed yesterday that Ecclestone will travel to St. Petersburg (Russia) next week to meet the local authorities in order to negotiate the construction of a new circuit.

It has been reported that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin may also attend the meeting. Ecclestone said on the matter: “Nothing is done yet, but this could be an interesting development for the sport. We’d like to get Russia in the calendar as soon as we can but that depends on them. It’s down to how long it takes them to get the circuit ready.”
