Ayrton Senna’s father fined

Ayrton Senna da SilvaAccording to what has been reported today by the Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milton da Silva, Ayrton Senna’s father, has been accused of housing 82 employees in inhumane living conditions in his property situated in the northern Brazilian state of Bahia.


The newspaper reported also that on February 2007 labour inspectors discovered that in Campo Alberto‘s ‘fazenda‘ the farmers were working in awful conditions. The inspectors filed the accusation and Paulo Germano Arruda, a Brazilian magistrate, condemned da Silva for violating workers’ rights and handed down a fine of the equivalent of nearly 280,000 euros (710,000 reais). Milton da Silva denied the accusations but acknowledged that some safety standards were not adhered to.
