On 14th April 2009 the FIA’s International Court of Appeal will hold a hearing in regards to the rear diffuser design that Toyota, Williams and Brawn GP have implemented in their single-seaters. The members of the Court will have to judge if the diffusers of the three teams are within the FIA technical regulations or not.

Inevitably, if the diffusers will get the green light it will be really tough to close the gap for the rest of the F1 teams. Double world champion Fernando Alonso is certain of this.

“If the diffusers will be considered legal, we will copy for sure their idea. But it will be difficult, because it would take several months to do so,” Alonso told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

“Right now Brawn GP has a completely different car compared to the others, it’s more efficient,” continued the Spaniard. “By fitting a new rear diffuser, we won’t be a second faster. We also have to work on the entire car: we will need a new front wing and floor.”
