Webber quickest in first Valencia practice
Petrov second fastest, Alonso third.
Mark Webber clocked the fastest lap in the first free practice ahead of Sunday’s 2011 European Grand Prix at the Valencia street circuit.
The Australian clocked a best time of 1:40.403 (22 laps), beating by 0.824 seconds Lotus Renault’s Vitaly Petrov (1:41.227, 20 laps) and by 0.836 Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso (1:41.239, 22 laps).
Fourth fastest time in the session for Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren (1:41.510), fifth for Nick Heidfeld in the other Renault (1:41.580), sixth for Felipe Massa (1:41.758), seventh for Jenson Button (1:41.926), eighth for Force India’s Adrian Sutil (1:41.955), ninth for Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg (1:42.049) and tenth for Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari (1:42.216).
Last place with no time set for HRT’s Karun Chandhok following a gearbox failure in the first minutes of the session.
