Vettel grabs Suzuka pole in Red Bull front row
Red Bull Racing got back dominating the qualifying session by locking up the front row of the Japanese Grand Prix with Sebastian Vettel on pole position for the eighth time this season, ahead of team mate Mark Webber.
Vettel clocked a best time of 1:30.785, beating Webber by 0.068 seconds (1:30.853).
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton (1:31.169) qualified third but will drop five places on the grid after a gearbox change ahead of qualifying. The Briton was followed by Renault’s Robert Kubica (1:31.231), Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso (1:31.352), McLaren’s Jenson Button (1:31.378), Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg (1:31.494), Williams’ Rubens Barrichello (1:31.535), Nico Hulkenberg (1:31.559) and Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher (1:31.846).
Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld qualified 11th ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, Renault’s Vitaly Petrov, Sauber’s local hero Kamui Kobayashi, Force India’s Adrian Sutil, Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari and Force India’s Tonio Liuzzi.
