Local hero Lewis Hamilton managed only 19th after his last timed attempt in q1 got interrupted by red flags for a big accident involving Adrian Sutil at Abbey.
The Force India driver, while approaching the Abbey chicane, failed to slow down his VJM02 and had a high speed impact into the barriers. Fortunately, he got out of the car uninjured. Test and reserve driver Vitantonio Liuzzi confirmed later on, that Sutil’s brake pedal broke right before the chicane.
