Schumacher tops rain hit SPA practice
Rosberg second fastest, Button third.
Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher set the fastest lap in the first minutes of the opening free practice session for Sunday’s 2011 Belgian Grand Prix at the SPA Francorchamps circuit, before heavy rain hit the Belgian track.
Schumacher set a best time of 1:54.355, beating by 0.474 seconds team-mate Nico Rosberg (1:54.829) who also had the chance to clock a couple of laps in the dry.
Third fastest time in the session for Jenson Button in the first of the McLarens (2:02.740), fourth for championship leader Sebastian Vettel (2:03.752), fifth for Lewis Hamilton in the other McLaren (2:04.301), sixth for Adrian Sutil in the Force India (2:04.663), seventh for Felipe Massa in the first of the Ferraris (2:04.728) and eighth for Rubens Barrichello in the Williams (2:05.391).
Ninth time for Toro Rossos Jaime Alguersuari ahead of Kamui Kobayashi, Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez, Jarno Trulli, Sebastien Buemi, Pastor Maldonado and Mark Webber.
17th fastest time for Timo Glock in the Virgin, 18th for Tonio Liuzzi in the HRT, 19th for Jerome D’Ambrosio and 20th for Paul Di Resta.
The session was red flagged with 15 minutes to go when Force India’s Paul Di Resta spun an went side-on into the tyre wall at Turn 9.
