Hamilton takes first win of 2009 in Hungary

Lewis HamiltonReigning world champion Lewis Hamilton took his first win in the 2009 season – his tenth career win – at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and Red Bull’s Mark Webber.

Fourth place for Williams’ Nico Rosberg ahead of McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen, Toyota’s Timo Glock, championship leader Jenson Button and Toyota’s Jarno Trulli.

Last place for the two Toro Rossos with debutant Jaime Alguersuari beating team-mate Sebastien Buemi.

2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, lap by lap highlights:

Formation lap: Fernando Alonso starts from pole for Renault for the first time in the season. Next to the Spaniard there’s Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. Behind the two, Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton. Fifth spot on the grid for Williams’ Nico Rosberg ahead of McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen, Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, championship leader Jenson Button and Williams’ Kazuki Nakajima. Last position on the Hungarian grid for Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari at his debut in a Formula One Grand Prix.

Race start: Alonso keeps the lead at Turn 1 followed by Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen and Nico Rosberg. Vettel in P7. Vettel says he could have a damaged front wing.

Lap 69/70: Button passes Nakajima for P8. Pit stop for Sutil. Sutil’s car gets wheeled into the garage: he’s out.

Lap 67/70: Alonso P1, Webber P2, Hamilton P3, Raikkonen P4, Rosberg P5, Kovalainen P6, Vettel P7, Button P8.

Lap 66/70: Hamilton overtakes Webber for P2. Raikkonen now putting pressure on Webber.

Lap 65/70: Team radio for Alonso: the Spaniard says his tyre are looking OK for now.

Lap 64/70: Hamilton P2, going fast, trying to close on leader Alonso. Fastest lap for Hamilton.

Lap 63/70: Alonso’s lead down to 2.1 seconds.

Lap 62/70: Alonso’s rear right tyre looks already very worn.

Lap 61/70: Fastest lap for Webber, P3.

Lap 60/70: Alonso P1 with 1.2 secs on Hamilton P2. Webber P3, Raikkonen P4, Rosberg P5.

Lap 59/70: Race Control: Raikkonen’s race start will be investigated after the race.

Lap 58/70: Alonso pits, 6.4 secs, back in P9. Problems for Alonso: his front right wheel looks loose.

Lap 57/70: Alonso’s front right wheel comes off and flies to the grass. Alonso makes it back slowly to the pits. The Spaniard rejoins in P18.

Lap 55/70: Hamilton P1, Webber P2, Raikkonen P3.

Lap 54/70: Alonso pits again. He’s pushed into the garage. He’s out.

Lap 52/70: Heidfeld pits.

Lap 51/70: Raikkonen, Webber pit. Raikkonen 8.3 secs, Webber 8.0. Near miss between Raikkonen and Webber on their release from the pits. Raikkonen makes it through.

Lap 50/70: Hamilton pits, 10.3 secs. Rosberg pits. Rosberg rejoins in P10 ahead of Webber but the Australian passes him.

Lap 49/70: Kovalainen and Vettel pit. Kubica pits.

Lap 48/70: Nakajima pits. He rejoins in P15. Hamilton leads ahead of Button and Trulli.

Lap 47/70: Piquet pits.

Lap 45/70: Button pits, 8.7 secs, back in P11. The Briton loses a place to Fisichella.

Lap 44/70: Vettel says that something is broken. He has problems controlling the car.

Lap 43/70: Vettel makes it to the pits. New tyres and front wing for the young German.

Lap 42/70: Trulli pits. Alguersuari pits.

Lap 41/70: Hamilton P1, Raikkonen P2, Glock P3, Webber P4, Koavalainen P5, Rosberg P6, Barrichello P7. Vettel running slowly.

Lap 40/70: Vettel pits. He’s wheeled into the garage. He’s out.

Lap 39/70: Kovalainen pressuring Webber for P4. No pit stop yet for Glock and Barrichello.

Lap 38/70: Glock makes his first pit stop. He rejoins in P7.

Lap 37/70: Barrichello pits.

Lap 34/70: Hamilton still leading the race followed by Raikkonen, Webber, Kovalainen and Rosberg.

Lap 26/70: Kovalainen pits for the second time. 8.1 secs back in P6.

Lap 25/70: Raikkonen pits, 11.5 secs, back in P4.
