Fernando Alonso grabs Monza pole position
Button second, Massa third.
Double world champion Fernando Alonso grabbed today at the Autodromo di Monza in Italy his first pole position since joining Scuderia Ferrari.
Alonso clocked a best time of 1:21.962, beating by 0.122 seconds reigning world champion Jenson Button (1:22.084) and by 0.331 third fastest team-mate Felipe Massa (1:22.293).
Red Bull’s Mark Webber qualified fourth (1:22.433), ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton (1:22.623), team-mate Sebastian Vettel (1:22.675), Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg (1:23.027), Williams’ Nico Hulkenberg (1:23.037), Renault’s Robert Kubica (1:23.039) and Williams’ Rubens Barrichello (1:23.328).
Force India’s Adrian Sutil qualified 11th and was followed by Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher, Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi, Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi, Renault’s Vitaly Petrov, Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari, Sauber’s Pedro de la Rosa, Lotus Racing’s Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, Force India’s Tonio Liuzzi, Virgin Racing’s Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi and HRT’s duo Bruno Senna and Sakon Yamamoto.
