Mario Theissen BMW-Sauber Motorsport DirectorHaving achieved all their goals for the 2007 season, the BMW Sauber team have already focused to their 2008 car, Mario Theissen said earlier this morning. “We are basically ahead of our development,” said Theissen on the team’s official website. Since the season has been going so well, we have already been able to fully concentrate on the new car for the next year,” added the BMW motorsport boss.

The German F1 team have secured second place in this year’s constructors’ championship behind Ferrari, following the exclusion of McLaren. Without that, BMW would have finished in third place, already a success for the Hinwil-based outfit. The team will be hoping to fight for victories next season, but Theissen is under no illusions about the difficulty of the task. “The last step to the absolute top is definitely the most difficult one,” he added. “Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes at the top are hard nuts to crack.”
