BMW Sauber: No KERS on both cars at the 2009 Spanish GP
Team also plans to run without KERS at the Monaco Grand Prix
BMW Sauber drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld will both race without the KERS system at the upcoming 2009 Spanish Grand Prix. The Hinwil-based team has temporarily removed the KERS from both BMW Sauber F1.09, due to a ‘comprehensive aerodynamic update’, set to be introduced in Barcelona.
“We will not be equipping either car with KERS in Barcelona. It was a case of lining up with either a comprehensive aerodynamic update or KERS. The tuning time on Friday would be too short,” said in a team notice BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen. “We may come back to KERS in Turkey,” he added – hinting that the team is also planning to run without KERS at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Despite the removal of KERS due to a lack of time, Theissen seems pleased with the way the system has performed so far: “From a technical point of view, the results are positive. The system has worked flawlessly up to now,” he said.
