2008 Singapore Grand Prix, 1st free practice: Hamilton tops first night practice
The 1st free practice session for the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix has just ended with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton on top of the timesheets. The Briton completed 20 laps on the new Singaporean Street circuit under the artificial lighting, with his best in a time of 1:45.518, preceding by 0.080 seconds Ferrari’s Felipe Massa (1:45.598). The Brazilian was followed by teammate Kimi Raikkonen (1:45961), McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen (1:46.463), BMW’s Robert Kubica (1:46.6118), Williams’ Nico Rosberg (1:46.710), Renault’s Fernando Alonso (1:46.725) and BMW’s Nick Heidfeld (1:46.964) rounding up the top eight.
Last place for Red Bull’s Mark Webber who crashed onto the barriers at the circuit’s tunnel entrance during the early stages of the session and was able to complete only four laps.
The drivers will be back on track in about 30′ for the 2nd free practice.
