2008 German GP, Qualifying: Hamilton snatches the pole

Lewis Hamilton, German Grand Prix poleBritish Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton has snatched today the pole position for Sunday’s German Grand Prix at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany. The Briton, beaten by Felipe Massa only during Q1, was able to grab a last second pole position by clocking a 1:15.666, 0.2 seconds faster than the Brazilian’s best time (P2, 1:15.859).

McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen made a mistake on his last attempt and managed to qualify third, ruining what could have been an all McLaren Mercedes front row.

Toyota’s Jarno Trulli, thanks to an exceptional lap on his flying lap ended fourth, pushing down Renault’s Fernando Alonso on fifth. The Spaniard was followed by a disappointing sixth placed Kimi Raikkonen (P6, 1:16.389) and seventh placed Robert Kubica (P7, 1:16.521).

Red Bull duo managed to put both of its cars in Q3, with Mark Webber finishing on P8 and David Coulthard on P10. Between them, young German Sebastian Vettel got P9 with a best time of 1:17.244.
